Overview

Through the Techniques de tourisme program, you will become a versatile professional with a thorough understanding of all industry sectors and gain the ability to develop, manage and deliver high quality tourist products in Québec as well as internationally.

Program structure and courses

Duration and schedule

  • Program starting in the fall 
  • Spread over 3 years old on a full-time basis (6 course sessions and 2 summer internships)
  • Includes a total of 3 535 hours, including 2 520 hours of coursework and 1 015 hours of compulsory internships
  • Daytime classes
  • Educational outings and practical applications taking place according to variable schedules (day or evening)

  • The ITHQ reserves the right to cancel a course or program if there are insufficient registrations to justify its offering. In such cases, program and registration fees will be refunded in full.

Hands-on experience

Compulsory internships:

  • Year 1: 3-month (390 h) paid summer internship in customer service, in Québec, Canada or abroad (subject to obtaining the required visa)
  • Year 2: 4-month (415 h) paid summer internship in English immersion outside Québec
  • Year 3: 6-week (210 h) unpaid end-of-program internship in a tourism business. This internship takes place during the final session of coursework.

Practical applications:

  • Throughout the training course: practical applications in the travel agency, the hotel concierge service, event coordination, restaurant service, etc.
  • Development of a tourism project in collaboration with a Québec tourism business (165 h)

Diploma

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in Techniques de tourisme from the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur
  • ITHQ Signature certificate in Techniques de tourisme

All students are required to follow certain basic rules regarding professional image.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for this program, you must: 

  • Have a high school diploma (HSD) and have successfully completed the Secondary 4 mathematics course (Culture, Society and Technology CST 4e – 063414 or Mathematics 416) or have received equivalent training, OR
  • Have a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) and successfully completed the Secondary 5 language of instruction courses, the Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics courses (Culture, société et technique CST 4e – 063404 or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written French.

  • Relevant professional experience, validated by compliant work certificates

Selection interview

The ITHQ may invite you to a selection interview that will take place in-person or remotely, according to your place of residence.

  • Proof of financial capacity (for all international candidates with the exception of those with French citizenship) 

Admission application procedure

  • Applicants must ensure that they meet the program’s admission requirements before submitting their application.      
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.       
  • For your admission file to be considered complete, it must contain a copy of all the official documents required by the ITHQ in accordance with your status, as listed above.
  • These documents must be legible and saved in PDF format. Documents in a language other than French or English must also be accompanied by a certified translation into French or English.            
  • Some documents required by the ITHQ may not be requested automatically on the admission platform. It is therefore your responsibility to ensure that all the documents on the list in accordance with your status have been uploaded to your file before submitting your application.
