Work during or after your studies

International students are allowed to work in Québec under certain conditions.

Working during your studies

Working on the ITHQ campus (at the Hôtel, the Restaurant, the student café, etc.) is possible as long as you hold a valid study permit and are a full-time student at our school.

For full details and conditions, visit the Work on campus section of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

International students with a valid study permit and who are enrolled full-time may also, under certain conditions, work off campus while studying at the ITHQ:

  • Up to 24 hours per week during regular full-time academic sessions
  • Full-time during scheduled breaks in the academic calendar

For full details and conditions, visit the Work off-campus as an international student section of the IRCC website.

  • If you are required to complete an internship (paid or unpaid) in Québec or elsewhere in Canada as part of your study program, you must obtain a co-op or intern work permit.
  • If your program includes one or more internships, you must apply for your co-op or intern work permit at the same time as your study permit, in accordance with the terms and conditions determined by IRCC.

For full details and conditions, visit the Work as a co-op student or intern section of the IRCC website.

Working after your studies

  • On November 1, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) changed the eligibility requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
  • Since then, the fields of tourism, hospitality, and restaurant services are no longer considered eligible fields of study for the PGWP.
  • As a result, graduates of the ITHQ’s vocational (DEP) and technical (DEC) programs are not eligible for the PGWP if they submitted their study permit application after November 1, 2024.

Permanent immigration procedures are strictly personal matters and have no connection with the mission and role of the ITHQ.

In a context where immigration policies and rules are constantly evolving, often unpredictably, and where immigration requirements are being tightened at both the provincial and federal levels, the ITHQ cannot make any commitment to or be held responsible for the eligibility of graduates for any immigration program.

In addition, although our team can provide general information on the subject, please note that we are not in a position to advise you on immigration to Canada, nor any concerns about permanent residency

To find out about current permanent immigration programs, visit the official websites of the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration du Québec (MIFI) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC):
