As an international student, unless you qualify for an exemption, you will be automatically and compulsorily insured under the GreenShield private insurance option chosen by the ITHQ.
- This health insurance plan offers coverage in Québec and in the countries where the internships will be carried out (certain conditions may apply).
- To find out how much the compulsory insurance will cost, use the Program fee calculator.
- To subscribe to this insurance, you will need to pay the fees indicated in your ColNET student account.
Exemption request
Some countries have signed a social security agreement with the Government of Québec, allowing their nationals to benefit from the Québec health insurance plan (RAMQ) for the duration of their studies.
- To find out if you can benefit from this agreement, consult the list of signatory countries.
- If you are a national of one of the signatory countries and wish to register with the RAMQ, you must obtain the Social Security affiliation form before leaving your home country.
- When you arrive in Montréal, you must apply online to the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). The following documents will be required: passport, Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ), proof of school attendance (which you can obtain from the registrar’s office) and Social Security affiliation form.
- As a RAMQ beneficiary, you may be exempted from the compulsory health insurance chosen by the ITHQ. To do so, you must send a copy of your RAMQ enrolment letter to the registrar’s office.
